Here is the configuration I use and abuse with the scripts that goes with it.
Might not work out of the box for you, please review and adapt the highly commented files

Structure:

• ~/.fvwm
  • config (main configuration with single head)
  • config-dual (same as main one with settings for dual head)
• ~/.fvwm/scripts (scripts used in the configuration)
  • gen-networks-menu.sh
  • gen-services-menu.sh
• ~/.fvwm/settings/icons (nice icons)
• ~/.fvwm/settings/images (background images for window decoration)
• ~/.fvwm/settings/ (specific window placement / menus / styles /* )

• ~/.fvwm/settings/programs (program specific config files
  • .conkyrc
  • .screenrc-fvwmedit
  • .screenrc-irssi
  • .screenrc-main
  • .screenrc-music
• ~/.fvwm/settings/screensaver (screensaver background)
• ~/.fvwm/settings/wallpapers (wallpapers)

Third Party software (not mandatory):

• hsetroot for the bakground
• urxvt for terminal (Xterm in case)
• trayer
• xscreensaver
• imagemagick
• emelfm2
• htop
• screen
