Something I like to do: getting notification of what's ringing on my phone to my laptop.

1. Installation
   You need the server (check your package manager for linconnect-server) and the client: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.willhauck.linconnectclient

2. Connection
   Launch the server

    linconnect-server 

   On the Android device, follow the onscreen instruction, the device should discover by itself the server otherwise add it by hand.

Et voilà ! You can setup/filter which Application can send notifications
